FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining” panel presentation at Awesome Con in Washington D.C., Saturday April 20th.

Depth Of Field Magazine brings together renowned comic creators and Hip-Hop luminaries to discuss ties between the two forms, upcoming projects, and shared inspirations

On Saturday, April 20th, from 5:00 to 6:00pm, Depth Of Field Magazine is proud to present Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining, a panel discussion at Washington D.C.’s inaugural Awesome Con.  This hour-long program will feature musical and visual artists shedding light on the common influences of comics and Hip-Hop, dissecting the often-confusing iconography of both communities, and discussing the inspiration that strikes when the two forms connect.  This presentation follows Depth Of Field’s recent Hip-Hop/Comics panels at New York Comic Con and WonderCon Anaheim, which received widespread acclaim from attendees, panelists, and press.

Patrick Reed (editor of Depth Of Field Magazine) will moderate, and the panelists include:

-Ronald Wimberly (author/artist of DC/Vertigo’s Prince Of Cats)

-Blue Black of The Unspoken Heard (MC, educator)

-Adam ‘ILLUS’ Wallenta (graphic designer, illustrator, MC)

-Jerry ‘The Franchize’ Gaylord (artist of Boom! Studios’ Fanboys Vs. Zombies, co-founder Identity Comics Studio)

-Penelope ‘Peng-Peng’ Gaylord (cover artist, inker, illustrator, co-founder Identity Comics Studio)

-Matthew Rosenberg (author, Ghostface Killah’s ’12 Reasons To Die’ comic)

-Preach Jacobs (MC, journalist, founder of South Carolina’s Cola-Con hip-hop/comics festival)

The panel runs one hour, and will take place in room 102b of the Washington Convention Center, located at 801 Mt. Vernon Place NW, Washington, DC.

Depth Of Field will also be hosting an Awesome Con afterparty at Chief Ike’s Mambo Room in the Adams-Morgan district, beginning at 9:30pm.  Artists from the panel will be in attendance, and DJs will be playing a selection of classic and rare funk, soul, ska, and hip-hop.  Admission is free for Awesome Con ticket holders, $5 for the general public.
