an exhibition of work by Chali 2na, Eric Orr, and Ronald Wimberly at the legendary Manhattan hotspot

On Thursday, October 8th, from 7:30-11pm, Depth Of Field Magazine is proud to present an exhibit of original pieces by Chali 2na (vocalist of Jurassic 5, photographer / illustrator), Eric Orr (creator of Max Robot, celebrated designer / graffiti artist), and Ronald Wimberly (graphic designer / illustrator) at the iconic Lower East Side venue Max Fish.

All three exhibiting artists will be in attendance at New York Comic-Con earlier that day, participating in Depth Of Field’s “Hip-Hop & Comics: Cultures Combining” program and interacting one-on-one with fans and fellow creators – and once the sun sets, they’ll make their way to the LES for a once-in-a-lifetime joint show that brings together their unique graphic perspectives and showcases their common roots in Hip-Hop culture.

About the artists:

  • Eric Orr is an artist and designer from New York City. He has designed and illustrated images and logos for acts including Jazzy Jay, Busy Bee, Afrika Bambaataa, Masters Of Ceremony, Ultimate Force, Lord Finesse, Diamond D, and DITC. In 1984, he collaborated with Keith Haring on a groundbreaking series of drawings in the NYC subways. His work has been featured in publications such as Juxtapoz, Mass Appeal, Complex, and the International Graffiti Times. He is the creator of “Rappin’ Max Robot”, the first Hip-Hop comic book, and in 2014, his archives were acquired by Cornell University for the Hip-Hop collection in their collection of rare books and manuscripts.
  • Ronald Wimberly is an illustrator and designer who has worked created work for clients including Marvel Comics, DC Comics/Vertigo, The Criterion Collection, Nike, Image Comics, The Nib, and The New Yorker. He is the writer/artist/creator of the graphic novel ‘Prince Of Cats’ and the forthcoming Image Comics series ‘Slave Punk’ and ‘Sunset Park’.
  • Chali 2na is best-known as a founding member of seminal musical acts Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, but he has spent much of his life as a student of (and participant in) hip hop and graffiti culture, and established a reputation as a true renaissance man. Over the last three years alone, he has utilized his unmistakable baritone in voiceover work, performed with groups including the House Of Vibe and The Funk Hunters, released a series of acclaimed solo projects, embarked on sold-out world tours with Jurassic 5, and found new ways to share his visual art with the world, receiving acclaim and recognition for his drawing, painting, and photography.

Music for the event will be provided by DJ Patrick A. Reed, minusbaby, and other special guests, and admission is free and open the public, with 21+ legal ID required for admittance. Select pieces on display will be available for purchase. Max Fish is located at 120 Orchard Street in NYC, two short blocks from the Delancey/Essex stop on the F/J/M/Z trains.
