New York Comic-Con 2011: in conclusion.

Now that we’ve had a couple weeks to recover, it’s time to wrap up this year’s NYCC coverage.

It was a show full of memorable moments:  Staring in awe at the thirty-foot inflatable Jake The Dog at the main entrance.  Digging through boxes of fifty-cent comics and two-dollar magazines.  Moving systematically up and down aisles, checking out new material from Disney Books, Random House Kids, Titan Publishing, TwoMorrows, FirstSecond, Abrams ComicArts, Oni Press, Archaia, Dark Horse, Image, and too many others to mention.  Finally meeting the esteemed Tony Isabella face-to-face, and purchasing the first few issues of his new Grim Ghost series.  Turning our heads every few seconds as another insanely elaborate costume passed by.  Witnessing Joe Kubert’s live-drawing demonstration following the Kubert School panel.  Wandering through Artist Alley, and marveling at the incredible array of talent. Attending the iFanboy afterparty, with DJ sets from Jamie McKelvie and Kieron Gillen (of Phonogram fame).  Getting sneak-peaks at upcoming projects, making new friends, catching up with old ones…  And carrying home enough strange and amazing things to keep us busy with reviews for the next few months, at the very least.

It was a wonderful four days, and despite some minor organizational issues (unavoidable with any event of this magnitude), we’d like to commend the folks at ReedPOP, the NYCC staff, and the volunteers for putting on an amazingly well-coordinated and fun convention.  We’re already looking forward to next year.
