Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining At San Diego Comic-Con 2020

Comic-Con@Home presents an all-star “visual mixtape” conversation, premiering online July 24th at 6PM Pacific / 9PM Eastern

For the past eight years, ‘Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining’ has been a highlight of San Diego Comic-Con’s programming, occupying a prime-time place of honor on the Friday evening of the annual pop culture gathering.

And on Friday, July 24th, at 6PM PDT/9PM EDT, an all-new iteration of the this beloved panel will premiere online on Comic-Con’s website, youtube channel, and media platforms as part of the new ‘Comic-Con@Home’ initiative, giving fans a chance to listen in to some of comics and Hip-Hop’s most vibrant personalities as they discuss their work within, and appreciation of, these two creative cultures.

This program features an all-star line-up of participants, including revered rappers Christopher ‘Play’ Martin, Pharoahe Monch, Murs, Mega Ran, Esoteric, and Marc 7; graffiti artists/muralists Gloria ‘Glow’ Muriel and Erin Yoshi; comic creators Vita Ayala, Danny Lore, Kenny Keil, Turner Lange, David F. Walker, and Ronald Wimberly; DJs/producers Johnny ‘Juice’ Rosado and Nu-Mark; and multi-media creators Likwuid, P.So The Earthtone King, James Reitano, and Adam ‘Illus’ Wallenta.

This online-only format has also allowed for a new approach – rather then simply recording a live conversation, we’ve taken the opportunity to restructure the conversation as a “video mixtape” of sorts! Footage of the various participants has been woven into an hour of conversation that is mixed with an eye toward topic, tempo, and feel; a program that explores the cross-currents and communication between Hip-Hop and comics, dives deep into the cultural and creative history of these two forms, and offers behind-the-scenes stories and sneak peeks at new projects.

Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining for Comic-Con@Home 2020’ will premiere on Friday, July 24th at 6PM PDT/9PM EDT – the official program description and video link can be found on Comic-Con’s website; the direct youtube link is here; and the listing for this program on Comic-Con’s full schedule guide is here.
